Dr. Emmanuel Faran

Dr. Faran Emmanuel is an accomplished public health researcher and an assistant professor in community health sciences at the University of Manitoba. He also serves as the associate director for technical collaborations at the Institute of Global Public Health, where he provides key technical and strategic support to the public and private sectors of health in Pakistan. He has a passion for using scientific evidence to translate into high impact public health policy and programs and is a strong advocate of conducting research to achieve this goal.

Throughout his career, Dr. Emmanuel has been a leader in the field of HIV/AIDS research. He has focused on populations at higher risk of acquiring and spreading the infection, such as people who inject drugs, sex workers, and men who have sex with men. He has been involved in developing new methods to understand the HIV epidemic and has played a critical role in measuring and monitoring progress in reducing maternal, neonatal and child health morbidity and mortality.

As an expert in program science, Dr. Emmanuel has successfully applied theoretical and empirical scientific knowledge to improve the design, implementation, and evaluation of public health programs in over 30 countries across Asia, Africa, Eastern Europe and the Caribbean. He serves as an advisor to the World Health Organization Eastern Mediterranean Regional Office for HIV Surveillance and has been a member of technical advisory committees for HIV surveillance in several countries across Asia and Africa.

Dr. Emmanuel received his bachelor of medicine and bachelor of surgery from Punjab University in 1992 and a master of science in epidemiology from The Aga Khan University in 2000. He is also an adjunct faculty member at the Health Services Academy in Islamabad, Pakistan.
